THE BEST LAWYER ANYONE COULD ASK FOR.
The BEST LAWYER ANYONE COULD ASK FOR!!! Todd changed our lives! He’s not JUST a lawyer representing us for a case. Todd and his office have become Family. When we entered his office in August of 2022, we entered with such anxiety, uncertainty, and so much stress. Honestly we were very lost. My husband and I felt alone. How could a lawyer who didn’t know us, know our family, know our background represents us, When this could change our lives for the next 5-7years that my husband was facing in Federal jail. By the time our free consultation was over with Todd, we left his office at ease. All our questions were answered and we had a sense of relief.
If you’re on our website, it’s because you—or someone close to you—received a Federal Grand Jury Subpoena and need serious legal representation.
At Spodek Law Group, we take this federal grand jury subpoenas seriously. This is a clear signal that federal authorities are investigating potential wrongdoing. It’s not something to ignore, – the feds are signaling their intent – and it’s not something you want to handle alone. You want our team of attorneys handling it. Our team has over 50 years of combined experience, and we’re here to help you. We pride ourselves on providing the best possible customer service and legal representation at all stages of a federal case.
What Is a Federal Grand Jury Subpoena?
A Federal Grand Jury Subpoena compels you to produce documents, or appear and testify, before a group of individuals handpicked by the government under Rule 6 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. Their role is to determine whether there’s probable cause to return an indictment against you or others. Grand juries operate behind closed doors, which makes this process even more intimidating for anyone served with a subpoena. Regardless of whether you’re considered a witness, subject, or target, the fact that you’ve been sent a grand jury subpoena means the government sees you as a crucial piece of its investigation. You must treat this with extreme caution. It is wise to speak to the Spodek Law Group attorneys asap, when you get this in the mail.
Difference Between State and Federal Charges
Many clients ask if they can face federal charges for something already handled by state authorities. The short answer is yes. Under the separate-sovereignty doctrine, recognized in Heath v. Alabama, 474 U.S. 82 (1985), state and federal governments can pursue charges arising from the same conduct. This is why it’s critical to hire an attorney who understands both state and federal procedure—and who knows exactly how to address potential double jeopardy concerns. When you hire Spodek Law Group, you’re working with a team that has handled cases nationwide, across multiple jurisdictions, and in both state and federal courts. We can handle both the state and federal case simultaneously.
If you are looking for a lawyer that listens, is aggressive where needed, and holds his word above all else, Todd is the best pick. I had hired multiple attorneys prior to hiring the Spodek Group for a white collar case. The first thing that stood out to me was the cost, as anyone going through the process and dealing with the system, money was tight at that time - especially after hiring and firing multiple lawyers. The cost was not as high as others which was definitely a plus. Todd's intake process was also unlike other attorneys. He took the time to actually listen. He cared. He was trying to put himself in my shoes while I was explaining the situation to him and he really took the time to understand the whole situation. Other lawyers will give you 15 mins and send you a retainer agreement. Not Todd, I think he spent almost two hours with me as I was explaining everything. Not only was he great during the onboarding process, he was supportive and very informative through the entire plea process and eventually sentencing. After hiring him, I asked if I should hire a prison consultant, he told me to save my money as he would do everything they would. He was right and held up to his word. Later on I would hear from others that went with the prison consultants that they were a waste of money - I am glad I listened to Todd! When it came time for sentencing, two days prior to sentencing, the prosecutor tried increasing my proposed prison time by almost double - apparently a normal move. Todd and his team worked with me non-stop through the weekend prior to sentencing to ensure that I was not given additional prison time. Again, he took the time to listen and came up with a strategy to explain the case with great detail.Unfortunately, I did plead guilty as that was my best option. Todd and his whole team wrote up nearly 300 pages of a summary of what happened and why I should not be given prison time. If I breakdown the amount I spent with Todd versus the amount of work that I saw being done, I am shocked I was not charged four times as much. The other benefit was, a lot of criminal defense lawyers were just a single attorney with a paralegal or two. Todd had a team of people that I dealt with (5-7 people that I interacted with), but he was ALWAYS accessible. It would never take him more than an hour to reply unless he was in court.I was sentenced to prison and I was emotionally distraught. Todd and his team did whatever they could even after sentencing to make sure I was alright. He personally stayed in touch with my family to ensure I was doing alright and offered support to them. Most lawyers would consider the job complete at sentencing, not Todd. After prison, Todd still spent time with me to make sure I was on the right track and avoiding any potential risks in the future. He has also been giving advice on how to navigate probation etc and has not been looking at the clock for billing.Although I wish I had never been arrested in the first place, I am glad I had Todd and his team in my corner. Without them I likely would have had to spend a lot more time in prison than I did.Thank you, Todd, and the entire Spodek Law team, for helping turn what was a nightmare into a manageable situation!

I don’t know where to start, I can write a novel about this firm, but one thing I will say is that having my best interest was their main priority since the beginning of my case which was back in Winter 2019. Miss Claire Banks, one of the best Attorneys in the firm represented me very well and was very professional, respectful, and truthful. Not once did she leave me in the dark, in fact she presented all options and routes that could possibly be considered for my case and she reinsured me that no matter what I decided to do, her and the team will have my back and that’s exactly what happened. Not only will I be liberated from this case, also, I will enjoy my freedom and continue to be a mother to my first born son and will have no restrictions with accomplishing my goals in life. Now that’s what I call victory!! I thank the Lord, My mother, Claire, and the Spodek team for standing by me and fighting with me. Words can’t describe how grateful I am to have the opportunity to work with this team. I’m very satisfied, very pleased with their performance, their hard work, and their diligence.Thank you team!
I recently had Spodek Law Group represent me for a legal matter in NYC and I am thoroughly impressed with their services.Alex Zhik secured the best possible outcome for my case.It was a seamless journey from the initial consultation to the resolution of my legal matter. From the moment I spoke to Todd about my case, his enthusiasm to help was evident, setting a positive tone for the entire experience. The efficiency and professionalism displayed by the team is commendable.A particularly noteworthy aspect of their service is their user-friendly portal to upload your documents/evidence. This not only simplified the process, but showcases their commitment to streamline the client experience.Lastly, in an industry where legal fees can often be a concern, I found their pricing to be very reasonable, making needing legal assistance feel accessible and stress-free.I am grateful for their support and wouldn't hesitate to turn to them again in the future.
Potential Federal Crimes and Why They Matter
Typically, a grand jury investigates violations of federal law under Title 18 of the United States Code. Federal charges can include white collar crimes like wire fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1343) and mail fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1341), drug conspiracies under 21 U.S.C. § 846, or financial crimes like money laundering (18 U.S.C. § 1956). Penalties are often harsher when it comes to federal cases, especially because federal judges look at mandatory minimums and the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which can significantly increase prison time.
Roleplaying Different Defense Strategies
At Spodek Law Group, we understand that federal investigations can come from multiple angles, and each situation calls for a custom-made defense strategy. We spend a great deal of time with our clients going through “what-if” scenarios, so you understand the options at every turn. Our biggest goal is making sure you know – every single scenario, and understand what will happen. Here are a few ways we might defend your case:
No Intent or Agreement (Conspiracy Allegations) If prosecutors claim you engaged in a conspiracy (18 U.S.C. § 371), they must prove there was a “meeting of the minds.” Maybe you innocently associated with people who committed a crime, but you didn’t agree to any plan. We work to focus that there is a lack of intent, undermining the government’s theory of a criminal agreement. Without intent, it’s much harder to prove the criminal case.
Entrapment Federal agents can sometimes step over the line. If government agents coaxed or persuaded you to do something you otherwise wouldn’t have done, we can argue entrapment. This is a powerful defense that calls into question the legitimacy of the entire investigation.
Lack of Willfulness Most federal crimes require proof you acted “willfully.” Maybe you believed you were acting legally, relied on professional advice, or were following standard practice. If we can show you lacked the intent to violate the law, it undermines the government’s case.
Illegal Searches and Seizures The government must follow the Constitution when it collects evidence. If there was a defective warrant or an unreasonable search, we can file a motion to suppress under the Fourth Amendment. Removing key evidence can weaken the prosecution’s position dramatically.
Cooperation vs. Trial Sometimes the best route is fighting the charges in court, while other times cooperating can reduce the potential punishment under U.S. Sentencing Guidelines §5K1.1. We walk you through the pros and cons of each path. Our team has negotiated serious cooperation deals, but we also prepare every case as if it’s going to trial.
When to Call an Attorney
We tell clients all the time: the moment you receive a Federal Grand Jury Subpoena, call us. Time is not your friend in these situations. Prosecutors and agents move fast, often using aggressive tactics to strengthen their case before you even realize what’s happening. Our job is to protect you from helping the government’s case, and to ensure you have the strongest defense possible.
Spodek Law Group’s Approach
At Spodek Law Group, we pride ourselves on having a top team of criminal defense attorneys, led by Todd Spodek—a second-generation defense lawyer who’s handled some of the highest-profile cases in recent memory, including representation of Anna Delvey (Anna Sorokin), which was covered by Netflix in “Inventing Anna.” We’ve also represented clients in other high-stakes cases covered by major news outlets. Our philosophy is simple: we only take on clients we can truly help. We don’t run a “mill” where every single person with a legal problem is accepted. We focus on quality, not quantity.
When you work with us, we start by offering a risk-free, no-obligation consultation. During this consultation, we encourage you to ask tough questions. We’re available 24/7. We have a digital cloud based portal, so you can securely send us documents, communicate in real-time, and track your case. We do everything possible to keep you informed.
Federal Sentencing Guidelines and What to Expect
If you end up charged, we have to look carefully at the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. While they’re advisory since United States v. Booker, 543 U.S. 220 (2005), judges still rely on them heavily. We pay close attention to factors like your criminal history category, role in the offense, and possible sentencing enhancements. We aim to fight the case at every level. If that means seeking dismissal, we go for dismissal. If it means going to trial, we go to trial. If it means negotiating a favorable plea, we’ll guide you in making that decision. We’re not afraid of any scenario because our goal is always the same: help you get the best possible outcome.
